What problem am I trying to solve?
How can I help people overcome difficulties related to executive dysfunction?Whose problem i am solving?
People who struggle with procrastination, lack of motivation, and difficulty concentrating. Why does this matter ?
Executive dysfunction is crucial as they directly impact personal productivity, mental health, and long-term success.
Background
In this fast-paced era, individuals are constantly distracted by various things, making it extremely difficult to maintain focus, execute tasks efficiently, and avoid procrastination. These difficulties are not merely overcome by willpower; they often stem from underlying cognitive processes that require specific support and strategies.
Research & Explanation
UX RESEARCH METHOD 01: SECONDARY RESEARCH
By examining and analyzing published literature, statistical data, etc., I have discovered the following:
According to the source: The Procrastination Research Group, approximately 70%-95% of college students experience procrastination, especially with academic tasks.
Research shows that between 2000 and 2020, the average human attention span decreased from 12 seconds to 8 seconds, which is lower than that of a goldfish, at 9 seconds.
UX RESEARCH METHOD 02: PRIMARY RESEARCH : QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY
The purpose of this questionnaire survey is to better understand the behaviors and challenges associated with procrastination and goal achievement.
UX RESEARCH METHOD 03: PRIMARY RESEARCH : USER INTERVIEW
To gain a deeper understanding of the success and failure factors of our target users, we interviewed three participants who had achieved their goals and three who had not, and conducted a comparative analysis of their experiences.
Achieved the goal successfully
The Power of Gradual Difficulty Increase
A gradual increase in difficulty from simple tasks can more easily foster a positive cycle. When you see your own progress, you'll be motivated to continue improving.
Collaborating Towards Shared Goals
Working towards a common goal with like-minded partners not only provides mutual encouragement but also allows us to learn from each other's experiences.
Driven by Completion
Seeing all my tasks checked off each day fills me with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, which motivates me to keep going.
Failed to stick to it for a week
The Burden of Reminders
The constant reminders to clock in make me feel overwhelmed. This high level of stress is making it difficult for me to keep up.
Task Overload
I often procrastinate until my tasks pile up. The sudden surge of stress makes me feel overwhelmed and eventually leads to me giving up.
Unbalanced Goals
I often overestimate my abilities and set unrealistic goals, which leads to missed deadlines and eventual abandonment of my tasks.
PERSONA
To better understand our target users, we've created a persona named Nova. By delving deep into Nova's needs, pain points, and behaviors, we can design a product that more closely aligns with their requirements.
User Research Summary
What did I take away from my research?
Many people have a problem with lacking motivation when it comes to executing tasks, which makes it difficult for them to persist.
A lot of people find it challenging to manage their time effectively and create a workable schedule.
Many people have a habit of procrastinating, and the closer they get to a deadline, the more anxious and frustrated they feel.
Positioning Map
In order to design a product that meets the needs of our target users, I created a product positioning map.
Design Solution
How might we create a solution that helps people improve focus and productivity, while ensuring they can maintain it over the long term?
01
Scenario-specific tasks
Providing pre-set, detailed to-do lists to different scenarios for users
02
Instant focus mode
Users can activate Instant Focus Mode to quickly enter a focused state
03
Peer learning community
Provide a community for users with shared goals to communicate and share
Task flows
Scenario-specific tasks
Provide users with pre-set schedules as a reference, eliminating uncertainty and the need to repeatedly input the same tasks when creating their to-do lists. At the same time, users can easily add personalized tasks based on their specific needs.
Quick focus practice flow
Join our community, find partners with similar goals, exchange experiences, offer encouragement and support, grow together, and become the best version of yourself.

Usability Testing
BEFORE
AFTER
Feedback
User testing revealed that the app's prompts are not user-friendly for users with weaker executive function. Harsh prompts after extended rest periods can easily lead to user abandonment.
My revisions
Implement more empathetic and motivating prompts, accompanied by soothing visuals, to avoid user discouragement and effectively guide them back to their tasks.
BEFORE
AFTER
Feedback
Feedback from user testing shows a need for users to have a clear way to see which tasks have been completed and which are still outstanding during task execution, enabling them to better monitor their progress.
My revisions
I've incorporated all the schedule's details and completion status at the bottom of the page, so users can access this information without interrupting their focus.
BEFORE
AFTER
Feedback
Feedback from user testing shows that users feel aimless and unfulfilled when initiating focus training without a pre-set goal.
My revisions
Dividing focus training into three stages and allocating reasonable time helps users clarify their goals and enhance their motivation to complete the training.

Reflections
Solving every small problem is key to groundbreaking innovations. The schedule app may seem like it has many features, but there are still areas that can be improved and innovated
Before users plant flowers, we first prepare the soil. The customization we offer to users is based on providing a solid foundational environment. Before users realize what this app can do, we can provide some references as guidance.
